Happy Day of Thanks and Food and Fun!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!! Or Thursday!!!

My day started out with a lovely run with some wonderful friends in the brilliant sunshine! The girls standing by me and I did 5k while the rest of the crazies more dedicated athletes, did a half marathon.

Then we rounded up the kiddos and drove to my sister’s for the festivities. My parents and other sister are also visiting from Wisconsin so it’s a Hilton party!

Which means a lot of singing musicals and arguing over Trivial Pursuit. And since we are all a bunch of HSPs, we are staying faaaaaar away from all black Friday shopping.

The kids made crafts. This is son #3’s “turkey” that was apparently pastured on nuclear waste.

My niece’s face in this pic cracks me up. She is NOT IMPRESSED with our spread. Although I was! This year I whipped baked yams with coconut oil, cardamom,  and cinnamon and it was divine! Seriously, like dessert good. Never microwave or steam a sweet potato again- I’m telling you baking in the oven takes them from veggie to…some cool descriptor that starts with V that I could think of if I wasn’t still in a tryptophan haze.

At least I haven’t progressed to full on food coma like my adorable little sis. Yet.

Anyway, I hope you are all having a beautiful, thankful day – whether or not it’s a holiday where you are!

What was the star of your dinner tonight? How do you feel about black Friday?

  1. Happy Turkey Day/Thanksgiving – Your baked yams sound divine ! I had to check Wikipedia so I think we call them sweet potatoes n Australia. I’d love the recipe.

    Have an excellent day

  2. Sliced my sweet potatoes and roasted them with a little butter and lots of cinnamon. HOLY SMOKES! They were like candied potato chips! I see more of THOSE in our future… Your family looks like FUN!

  3. Oh, the turkey won BY FAR on our table, but my handmade, homemade rolls were divine! (Oh, and the dairy-free coconut milk ice cream got raves!)
    Glad your thanksgiving was great!

  4. For me, it’s all about the stuffing and the cranberry sauce!

  5. What love & fun!!! I know the potatoes of all kinds are better in the over=n but too lazy to wait & to cheap to keep the oven on that long.. maybe when I am baking something else! 🙂

  6. I dice sweet potatoes to bite size, drizzle them with olive oil and put chili powder and cinnamon on them. Roast at 425 until tender. They should be crispy on the edges and tender through and through. So good. So. Good.
