Happy Holidays and Lip Kisses from Me!

kiss

I swore I’d never be a lip kisser. At least with anyone I wouldn’t consider joining gene pools with.  This was born out of enduring years of aggressive lip-kisses from a few particular people for whom hygiene was marginal and personal space was non-existent. And yet, here I am, a lip-kisser. And you know what I have to show for it? A big fat cold.

I blame Jelly Bean. Every night we do kisses and she wants one on her soft head, one on her delicious nose and one on her sweet little mouth. She always exclaims, “You give me a kiss! I give you a kiss! We gives eaches others a kiss!” How can you resist that? That’s puppies in a basket wearing hats level of cuteness, is what that is. (Although I still draw the line at lip-kissing other adults that I’m not married to.) Of course, she also gives her germs. That runny nose and sore throat she had all last week that made both of us sleepless and miserable? Merry Christmas mama!

Eh, I’d do it again.

All of which is to tell you that I’m  feeling a little sorry for myself. I wanted to write something fab for you guys, send you off on your  vacation with a giggle and a smile. I also wanted to finish my Christmas shopping, wrap presents, clean my house, finish up my job-work and get a jump on Christmas dinner. Nada. I’m too tired and sick.

So what did I do to lift my spirits instead of one of the many productive things I could have done? This:

The coat closet doors were boring. I fixed them!

And I have to say that while I do like the end product – cute fat little birdies on  a wire! – I enjoyed the process so much more. I’d forgotten over the years that writing isn’t the only art form I enjoy. While I’m not great at them, I love playing the piano, drawing and painting, embroidery, crocheting and hardanger (bonus points for anyone who knows that last one! Thank you Girl Scouts!). It was positively meditative standing there and mixing colors and sketching birds and kicking the kids and the cat out of the way every 5 seconds. (Not literally. Mostly.)

So instead of sending you off with our usual gymnastic Gym  Buddy greetings, I’m going to wish you all a happy holiday and new year, and then crawl into bed with a mindless fluff book. Per my usual, I’m taking the week between Christmas and New Year’s off from blogging. In fact, I’m going to try and stay away from the computer in general. I might die. We’ll see how it goes.

Any of you lip kissers? Rediscovered an old hobby lately? Anyone else a snot factory right now??

Love you all! Thank you so much for being in my life!!

  1. I hope you feel better soon! I’ve been sick for a week now and it’s really messing with my head. It’s not from lip-kissing, either – I even avoid cheeks whenever I can. Hugs for me, or handshakes. On the plus side, last night was the first one without excessive body temperature drenching the bed, so I’m hoping to finally get some work done today. Crafting and fluffy reading sound so much better, though. Happy holidays!

  2. Merry Christmas – I love fluff reading it’s definetly one of my favourite kinds, hope you feel better soon xxxxx

  3. Hubby and I have been life-long renters, which precludes such creative endeavors as painting on closet doors, BUT…we are currently house-hunting for a place of our very own, so I can’t wait to do stuff like this that I’ve never been able to because the freakin’ landlord won’t like it!

It’s adorable. When we get a place, I’ll be asking your advice about color schemes and materials.

  4. I am SO not a kisser. Ever since I was little I was convinced you could get pregnant from kissing men–even your dad or grandpa–so I avoided it. Well, it was also in part because my grandpa always had food on his face (he totally made fun of me for my air kisses.) It just kind of stuck with me as I got older (minus the confusion about getting pregnant, of course.) 😉

Hope you feel better! And also, your art is adorable. Love it.

  5. I lip kiss my kids too. They’re just so flippin cute! I love rediscovering old talents. It’s so fun to remember the well rounded person you were before your round had to include a few extra people.

  6. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
I hope you get better soon and are able to enjoy this time with your family!
BTW – I think you are a great artist!!!

  7. I am a lip-kisser, but my father is not. He has always turned his cheek for a kiss- that was the way he was raised.
I only have a small group of people (all relatives) that I lip-kiss, however, I take no offense at someone who prefers a cheek-kiss or just a hug!

I love your painting! I am so not creative when it comes to that. That could be why the walls in my house are all painted cream and there is nothing hanging on the walls. Of well- maybe I just use all my creativity in my baking?!!

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Charlotte!!

  8. Happiest of time off to you Charlotte! Thank you for sharing YOU with us – so open & raw you!!!

I am so NOT creative & love that you are & doing different things… I love that Jelly Bean loves kisses. I love you blog!

Merry Christmas & a happy new year & see you in a week or so! 🙂

  9. Wow, you rock 🙂 I so, so, so enjoy reading your posts every day! You are one of the funniest, kindest, smartest bloggers out there,i’m sure. I normally don’t comment, but who knows, maybe it helps to make you feel a tiny itsy bitsy bit better. Looking forward to your posts in the new year 🙂

  10. Thank you for the laugh and I hope you feel better soon. Although I strongly recommend that you draw out the reading fluff in bed thing for as long as you can.
Only lip kissing of men (of anyone, I’m pretty sure…) over the last 23 years has been my husband and my late step-grandfather. Definitely two different styles though. Cheeks work fine for me. My grandma always gives her hello and goodbye kisses on my neck, I think because she is a life long lover of bright red lipstick.
You have a real gift for painting. The birds on wires is just beautiful.
HappyHolidays and a Happy New Year to you and yours!

  11. I’m a lip kisser with my kids because they are the sweetest, but definitely not adults! I hope you have an awesome holiday!! And feel better soon! Xxx

  12. Merry Christmas! I hope you are feeling better and you and your family enjoy the holiday. Please try not to die, that would make me very sad.

Also, I’m not a lip kisser with my mom, though I think she still tries. Cheeks are just fine thank you. Air cheeks are even better. Of course, a married child approaching 30 is much different than, you know, an actual child. 🙂

  13. Feel better and Merry Christmas!

Ps. You’re an awesome drawer! You make my stick figures look bad 😉
