Today Show, Here I Come! (Actually they’re coming to me!)

Should I wear my new spring dress that I mostly made myself? (I reworked a huge muumuu I found at a thrift store). Probably too fancy. Especially now that we have a foot of snow. Back to the closet…

So I just found out – as in today – that I will be on The Today show! Next Week! But they’re sending a film crew to my house TOMORROW to tape the segment! (The day that starts in 30 minutes because I stayed up too late again!) Other than abusing exclamation points I am running around like a crazy person doing very important things:

1. Worrying about what to wear. (Because of course I’m having a serious I’m-fat-and-ugly attack – it’s my mind’s cop-out anxiety for everything.)

2. Coaching my kindergartner to pleeeease stop picking his nose and eating it like his hands are lik-a-maid sticks. (Seriously, sometimes he’ll do both hands in both nostrils at once to get double the booger-y goodness into his mouth.)

Of course this means that I am NOT doing these very important things:

1. Cleaning my house. That they will be FILMING in.

2. Actually thinking about what I’m going to say so I don’t sound like a total moron on camera.

3. Um, blogging. Forgive this post, please.

All of which means I’ve sprouted like 2 zits in the past 10 minutes and there’s a 90% chance someone is going to wake up with stomach flu at 3 a.m.

All I know so far is that I’ll be on in the 8 a.m. time slot some day next week. Wish me luck!!!

P.S. At least I’m not trying to repaint my entire house the night before like I did when I was on 20/20! There are advantages to only having one day’s notice – limits the crazy time.

P.P.S. My husband just got home and would like you all to know that he too has a big accomplishment to share: he scored 9 points in his pick-up basketball game tonight! Woohoo!

  1. Congrats on the today show gig!!!! I’m so excited for you. And relax, you’ll look gorgeous no matter what you wear as usual. I hope you’ll let us know what day it airs so I can watch because I totally feel like you’re my friend since I stalk your blog everyday 😉

  2. What Christina said!
Yay!!!!!!!(And congrsts to Gym Hubby on the 9 points!)

  3. Congratulations! It will be great!

  4. best of luck! I’m sure everything will be fine! Don’t worry about it (easier said than done for sure). Your dress looks lovely 🙂

  5. CONGRATS! & Get yourself to bed NOW!!!
    Good Luck xxx

  6. LOVE that dress – serious sewing envy – but I’m concerned the colors might not work wonderfully on camera. Maybe something ever-so-slightly more muted? Good luck, gorgeous!

  7. That is so exciting!! NINE points!! Oh, and that little TV thing. Yes, sometimes NOT having a lot of notice is indeed a good thing. Your house will look great and genuine which viewers will appreciate. We have enough un-reality to watch as is.

  8. Congrats!!! I can’t wait to see the segment!!!! (I’m abusing exclamation points as well because that is simply awesome!) 🙂

  9. Congratulations!!!!!! 🙂 Let us know when it will air, so I can watch it.

  10. I am so excited for your husband!!! NINE points?!!? You’re going to be on tv. Woo-hoo.

Hehehe. I kid. You will do, look, and be the fabulous CHarlotte that you always are. On the plus side about the booger thing, people eat that stuff up; especially the type of people who watch The Today Show. I think I read some statistics about that somewhere.

  11. Congratulations! That is just awesome 🙂

I hear you on the zits. It’s like they’re wired to Important Events.

  12. That’s fantastic! You are totally famous! 🙂 Can’t wait to watch it.

  13. You made that dress out of a muumuu?! I wish I could do cool clothing-themed things like that!

  14. Congratulations! I will be tuning in for sure.

  15. 9 points?! Way to go, man! (Gotta give props to my gender, you know).

The Today Show? Excellent. Who are they sending for the interview?

Also, you should totally wear that dress. AND MUST WEAR THOSE BOOTS!

  16. Let me know if it gets shown on YouTube or Hulu. (I don’t get cable!)

  17. Looove the dress. I need to add some wardrobe color. And I think it’s “Lick-em-ade” like lemonade… I was a nerdy enough kid to read the wrapper and think it was clever.

  18. Yay! Congrats and best of luck on the taping!

Oh, and I love those boots. The dress is awesome, too, but my heart belongs to shoes.

  19. Good luck with your taping! I know you will be fabulous! 🙂

  20. How exciting! Can’t wait to see you on the show! Your dress is so cute! I don’t know how you could have a fat and ugly attack- ever! But I can relate to what you said about it being your “mind’s cop out anxiety for everything”. I am realizing that is so true in my life. Anyway, good luck, you’ll be great!

  21. WOOT!!!

You are going to be lovely, Charlotte.

  22. Congrats on both fronts!! I hope the segment went well and can’t wait to see it next week. Also, I’m strangely glad my 4 yr old is not the only one who likes his boogers almost as much as chocolate. He loves them soo much, he doesn’t care WHO watches him pick his nose and eat ’em. The other day, at the gym daycare no less, he was running around with these two gorgeous little girls when he stopped, picked his nose, and ate what he found while both girls shrieked “Ewwwwww! That’s DISGUSTING!!!”. He just smirked at them and laughed. *Sigh*

  23. The only people that are fat and ugly are those that aren’t very pretty on the inside.

I mean that… The only times I notice people’s weights are if I’ve never met them and don’t think they’re a nice person (judgmental, much?)

anyways, back on point… (or en pointe if you like ballet!) I sort of “Squee”d when I read this… and yes, let us know what time… I shall DVR it…

(btw: I hope you’re proud AND excited…. pride can be a hard emotion, but this is definitely something to be proud of… as is that mumu reconstruction — before/after pics??)

Oh and don’t read too much into how you look on camera… When I held that fashion show a year ago I did all these interviews (is it bad my fave was the radio one??) and things get wanky looking on camera sometimes. I’m sure The Today Show has MUCH more sophisticated equipment… but I just know it sort of made me feel funny, until I realized even the models looked a lot different on camera…. and you have SUCH a huge advantage with being personable. Personality shines.

  24. Incredibly awesome!!! Congrats!!!

  25. Good luck with it all, Charlotte! You absolutely *must* post a link to the interview for your international readers 🙂

  26. How exciting Charlotte! Congrats! Is it about your new book?

  27. I love it. I feel like we’re friends, and so you are my first friend to officially be on The Today Show. Ahhh, I’m so excited. Congrats Charlotte. Can’t wait to watch.

  28. That dress used to be a mumu?! Oh my goodness, I never would have been able to tell. It’s adorable. Too bad the snow means it will have to stay in the closet.

Congratulations on the TV spot. If it’s on a day I’m not working, I will be sure to wake up early and tune in.

  29. I am a little late, but good luck! Hope it all goes well!

  30. OMG congrats!!! HOW exciting!! Also exciting…did you know you’re nominated for a Fitness Mag blog award?! You should definitely put up a button to make voting for you easier 😉

  31. Wow, you are amazing!!! I slip a way for a week or so to sip Mai Tai’s and whine about internet access, and you’re off achieving even more media awesomeness. How you do all this without blowing any gaskets is a mystery to me, but I love to see you get the recognition you deserve. Can’t wait to see the segment!

  32. How exciting!! Sending good juju your way so that everything goes smoothly and fantastically!! Can’t wait to see your segment next week 🙂
