The Truth About the hCG Diet, Strange Ways to Save Money and other dubious advice from me this week

I love words. It’s no secret. And no words ever make me laugh harder than unintentional autocorrects. My personal best: I once tried to text a friend “don’t be so catastrophic” but after my phone mangled it, it came out “go lick cats a** ” She texted back, “That is like the worst advice ever.” There isn’t an LOL-ism to show how hard I laughed. Anyhow, if you need a giggle, check out Darnyouautocorrect.com

In other wordy news, not only did I publish my first newspaper feature this week and get profiled in the same paper but I also wrote some stuff. A lot of stuff. Enjoy! Or skip it and go straight to autocorrect and laugh yourself silly. It’s Friday!

10 Tips From People Whose Body Is Their Career. My personal fave was Kara Goucher, elite marathoner and Olympian, who said, “”I used to be super restrictive about what I ate and watched everything I put into my mouth. Then I went the other way and ate a little bit too much of everything. Now, I’m in a healthier place. No food is off limits—if I tell myself I can’t have something, I’m way more likely to eat the entire container than if I allow myself to just have some. So I eat healthy most of the time, but if I want dessert, or a glass of wine, I have it!” Even elite athletes like intuitive eating!

8 Reasons Why You Should Lift Heavy Weights. Seriously ladies, there are so many great mental and physical benefits of lifting heavy! Plus, then you’ll know that when someone says “Hey, nice rack!” that they actually are complimenting your lifting form. Usually.

7 Unknown Spots to Score Affordable Workout Clothes. Did you know you can make your own yoga capris out of a large t-shirt? Or that Dancewear Solutions isn’t just for dancers (and has the cutest tanks for less than $15)? Be your own Fitshonista. Yeah, okay, fitshonista is never going to catch on.

The Truth About the hCG Diet Plan. Remember how I said the surest way to make people mad is to rip on their fave diet plan? Well, keep in mind that it was the FDA who called this one “dangerous, illegal and fraudulent.” Not that I’m a huge fan of it either.

Bloggers Reveal The #1 Best Get Healthy Tip They’ve Ever Gotten. And I win an award for the wordiest headline ever written! Yay me! (Seriously, is there a class for writing good headlines? Because I need one. Now.)

And for a change, I’m actually in the piece instead of writing it. Want to check out my slightly embarrassing choices for workout songs? (Yes I’m a 33-year-old mom who loves Pitbul. I have no idea how a short, bald man can be so sexy but there you go.) I’ve also recently discovered Lindi Ortega (video embedded below) and you should see me run to this one – I can’t help but sing out loud! Yep, I’m that girl. Bloggers Reveal: What’s on my workout playlist.

Great Mom Debate: Have you made your kids write their thank-you cards yet? Here’s the thing about thank-you cards: they’re a lot of work for the parents. I know, I know, we’re raising courteous human beings and all. I do it. I just whine a lot.

When Babies Get Grabby: 5 ways that babies (adorably) make you a flasher. President Obama recently demonstrated what to do when one is “fish-hooked” by a tiny one. Seriously, I’ve watched this video 10 times now and I still go “awwww…!”

Moms’ 10 Weirdest Tips for Saving Money. I have smart mommy friends. But the thing that most amused me about this piece were the comments. Half the people were like “Wha…? These are the weirdest tips ever! Who does this crap??” and the other half were like “These tips aren’t weird! I was promised weird! Where are the sewer alligators dangit?!”

Kids bad reactions to hilarious gift giving. I can’t remember if I already linked this one here but the video is so funny, it’s worth watching twice;)
Have you ever had a really awful autocorrect?? Do you have a new favorite workout song?

  1. Someone’s been a busy bee!

Glad I’m not the only one that buys dancewear to wear to the gym and yoga… I think LuluLemon is super overpriced and can’t convince myself to pay that much for stuff I sweat in… Call me crazy….

oh and best/worst autocorrect of mine? For whatever reason my phone tried to correct my mistyped overwhelmed (I think I had typed oberelmed — I was still getting used to my iphone… ) into obese… Considering I was doing a coaching text (oh DBT…) to my therapist for why I couldn’t pick out food to eat that would have been INCREDIBLY bad had I hit send without noticing it.. completely different reasonings… meeps!

  2. If you like Pitbull you MUST check out Don Omar. “Danza Kuduro” and “Taboo” are my favorites.

  3. The #1 reason I would never try the hCG diet, aside from the fact that it is CRAZY, is that my wackadoodle uncle who is really into get-rich-quick schemes sells so-called hCG on the side. If ever there was a reason NOT to try something. Trust me, if you knew him you’d know what I was talking about.

And I have got to check out this whole make-yoga-capris-out-of-a-large-tshirt thing.

    Thanks, Charlotte!

  4. I also love Pitbull!
I also enjoyed your newspaper article, especially the profile they did of you.

    My favorite auto-correct incident:
“I’m doing to Whore Foods, want anything?”
“If you’re going to Whore Foods I’d like a leggy blond, but if you’re going to Whole Foods I’ll settle for some peanut butter.”

  5. Love the article about heavier lifting. I wish more women would believe it and try it. I’m by no means a “heavy” lifter, but since following a plan that has me lifting much heavier than the 5-10 lb dumbbells most magazines recommend, I’ve seen a huge difference and have experienced almost all of the results in your article. I’d still look leaner if I cut out a few (hundred) more calories, but I’m really happy with the changes that have occurred with no major changes to my diet.

  6. You did all that with FIVE kiddos running around? Boy, I feel like a sloth!
Love the music video! Always looking for new music to share with my classes!
    Thanks!

  7. Oh man, you might need to do a sequel to the 7 unknown spots to buy workout clothes! I guess you stuck with places everyone has access to, but two of my favorites are Kohl’s and Nordstrom Rack.

I started lifting heavier last year. I fell out of the routine when I had to ramp up my running for marathon training but I’d really like to get back into it this year. I felt amazing when I was lifting heavy on a regular basis.

  8. Of all the strange, icky diet plans, the HCG one tops my list.

Two words, : Kevin Trudeau nuff said!

  9. Oooh, I just remembered another good and not-so-well-known place to get discounted workout stuff. Like Planet Gear, The Clymb is a discount member site. Registration required but they do clothing, shoes, and accessories for all kinds of sports. I’ve gotten bike shorts and an awesome long-sleeved running top for way cheaper than it would be at regular retail stores.

  10. Charlotte, thanks for the Dancewear website suggestion!

Fishnets, tutus and shoes, oh my!!

I’m super excited and will be delving farther into that website later at home.

  11. I see your singing and raise you one: guy on the treadmill next to me yesterday was PUNCHING THE AIR as he ran. I’m pretty sure it’s not a new crazy workout. He just really REALLY loved that song.

    Px

  12. OK, I am old & don’t like Pitbull! 😉 So many friggin links Charlotte – how do you do it! 🙂

I already congratulated on all your greatness elsewhere, ;-), but I so loved that Obama clip. I saw it on the news or cable network or somewhere – CUTE!

  13. Hahaha wombats. How can you not laugh? So I really like Lindi Ortega’s LWD (little white dress) in that video! Spring shopping fever may be setting in a little early this year…

  14. Holy crap how do you write so many awesome articles??!!??

Thanks for sharing that Lindi Ortega video, that’s a perfect fast-as-hell song for the elliptical, and I’m running right off to download it! I need more tunes!

  15. The hcg diet “works” in the fact it makes a person lose weight but so would just eating paper for a month:) (not advocating either of these things) The truth is a calorie is not just a calorie it is important where the calories come from and it is also important to eat more than whatever the hcg diet has on it.

  16. How how how do you find time to do all this??? All your kids aren’t even in school! Do you sleep? Seriously, I only had time to get up two TWO posts this week and those were done late after the boys were in bed. You blogged every day and wrote a ton of articles! I must be just horrible at time management. I just can’t figure out what is wrong with me. For goodness sake I live in an rv (takes no time to clean) and I have no commitments aside from homeschooling. Surely I could carve out a few hours for myself. There is something seriously wrong with me when it comes to productivity. 🙁 I also no better than to compare myself. Congrats!!!! I’m very happy for you!! Truly!!!

Ps Is it gross I wear workout clothes from thrift stores?

  17. Not available in my country! BOO!!! >:-(

Referring to the video ofcourse. I will check our some of your articles and the autocorrects.

Go lick a cat’s ass, Charlotte. Wombats cannot express how much I love many of you posts (here I am referring to the non-sponsored ones, often your sponsored ones are blah, but I understand, you need to make a living and all).

  18. The 7 unique places to find workout clothes is really neat! thanks for sharing that!!
