New Website Issues & Leslie’s Back!

First, the big news: Leslie Goldman, author of The Locker Room Diaries and erstwhile blogger is back! Years ago when I first started blogging, Leslie’s blogΒ The Weighting Game was one of my daily faves. Her wit, her honesty, her lack of fear in writing about bodily fluids – I loved her! She shuttered her blog to move on to bigger and better things but now she’s back (with a brand new rap!) with her new site All Health Breaks Loose.

Second: We’re still working out the kinks with the new site (the comments for old posts are still missing) but quite a few of you have commented or e-mailed saying the new site loads really slow for you or the cursor hangs during typing a comment. Ryan’s gone through the code and everything’s as stripped down as it can be. It seems to work for some people that after you’ve loaded the site 4 or 5 times, it gets a lot faster (not 4 or 5 times each day, but ever – something to do with caching). He’s also fixed the bugs with the Twitter share button, the mobile version and the text appearance in Internet Explorer. So, if you are still having issues loading and/or reading my site will you please leave me a comment with the problem and your browser and operating system? Thanks for your patience! And don’t forget to enter my $100 giveaway from Olay and Blogher!

  1. Hey Charlotte. I use Opera (‘cos I hate IE) in Windows 7. Whenever I visit your blog, the display always loads in the mobile version by default, and I have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and manually switch back to the desktop version. (Embarrassingly enough, it took me rather a long time to work out what was going on there … for a while I thought you’d perhaps lost your mind and chosen the world’s Ugliest. Layout. Ever. for your revamped site. LOL)

Is there anything I can do from my end to stop it from loading the mobile version instead of the desktop version? I’ve never had this problem with any other of the bazillion blogs I read. πŸ™

  2. Posting that last picture was just MEAN. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

    Maybe there’s just something wrong with my screen . . . .

  3. The site has always worked ok for me — and I love the new design! Happy Easter Charlotte!

  4. Moves like that make me want to start watching tennis matches.

  5. It definitely works (and fast) for me… and I’m Firefox on a MacBook Pro with so-so internet connectivity.

The only thing that ever did not was when I tried to tweet and it went to Ryan instead.

  6. Hi Charlotte – I am still having issues with jerkiness & the cursor in weird places. I use IE9 and Windows 7.

  7. It seems to work fine for me Charlotte. I love the new layout!

  8. The curser hangs in strange places for me, and the site still moves with a lag. I use WIndows 7. There’s a very strange lag when the site is scrolled. No other site I go to does this, so I’m not so sure it’s my computer and OS.

  9. It’s still a bit off for me! Doesn’t keep me from reading, but I do comment less because the cursoer doesn’t match up with the letters and it’s difficult to correct or change anything (ie. the word “cursoer”). I’m using Windows and Microsoft Explorer. Anyway, I’ve definitely loaded more than 5 times (as I mentioned, I haven’t stopped reading! Just don’t comment as much). Love your blog…as always. Even if you DID post that last picture.

  10. Yay! Leslie’s back!!!!

Hopefully the bugs will be worked out soon, and all will be well.

  11. I’m no longer able to view any pictures using Google Reader with IE (not sure which version) on Windows Vista. I’m usually reading at work (shh… don’t tell my boss), so it may have something to do with their firewalls. I’m just sad because you post such great pics and I don’t get to see them any more. (Although I could have done without out the pic on this post. :P)

  12. this website is very, very slow and frustrating. I use internet explorer. also many of your links that show up in google search give a page not found error.

  13. When I browse at home, I’m on a Mac using Safari and it’s like speedy gonzalez. When I’m at work, I’m on Windows XP (seriously!) and IE 8. It’s slow as molasses and it’s the only site that does that for me so I’m sorry but it’s not me, it’s you πŸ˜›

Not to worry though, I circumvent the issues by using my phone and viewing the mobile version. πŸ™‚

  14. Thank you so much for my coming-out announcement!! I feel just like a blogging debutante. SO appreciated, Char πŸ˜‰ xoxox

  15. So happy to hear Leslie’s back! I missed reading her blog. πŸ™‚
