Fitness Gear to Lust After (Dick’s Sporting Goods Giveaway!)

The Japanese see-through skirt trend is one I will never be able to get behind (har har)

If you had 50$ to buy yourself any piece of fitness gear you want, what would it be? Boxing gloves? Kettlebell? A racquetball racket? Trail shoes? Snorkel? Down payment on a heart rate monitor (those suckers are pricey!)? That’s because you all are not vain. Me: I want a pair of skapris. Skort-apris. Capriskas? Whatever. I want a workout skirt with attached capri pants. Like these from See Jane Run:
Or these from Skirt Sports:

Or this little Nike number:

I have a thing for workout skirts. I’d blame my ultra girliness on having 3 sons but you can ask my mom, I’ve been this way ever since I could dress myself. My kindergarten year was immortalized as the year I refused to wear anything but dresses even in -30 weather. Even when I was a sad-eyed goth (I woulda been Emo except it hadn’t been invented yet) it was still all skirts all the time except that they were all black. You should see my dress closet now. What, not everyone has a dress closet? (Side note: someone please invite me somewhere I can wear one of my dresses to, stat!)

I know I should say that I want some super geeked out gadget (I DO desperately want a fitbit) but really what I want are new clothes. Don’t worry, I’m appropriately ashamed of my frivolity. It doesn’t matter though because I can’t win the $50 gift card from Dick’s Sporting Goods. But YOU can! And at the same time you can help me by voting me onto Dick’s Sporting Goods Starting Lineup – a panel of fitness folk who get to try out new fitness stuff- by tweeting my Twitter username @CharlotteGFE to @Dickssportcmo! To enter the contest and get all the details, click through to my giveaway page.

Anyone else have a thing for workout skirts or just dresses in general? Feel free to post a link to your fave in the comments!

PS> I didn’t realize until after I’d published this post what Blogger had truncated the URL down to. It’s kinda hilarious, really. (Dear Mom & Dad, please don’t read your address bar, thanks.)

  1. i've never worn a workout skirt before but i do love getting dressed up in dresses. i think because i don't do it often it makes me feel extra special when i do

  2. Marathon Maiden, Dang girl you are fast!!

  3. I tweeted for you to win!

  4. I'd buy another pair of running capris! It seems that my two fav pairs of running / yoga capris are always at the bottom of the waiting-to-be-washed pile when I need them. And once something is in that pile, I can't just pull it out.

  5. I tweeted about the contest!

  6. I have no idea what I'd get. I really want a heart rate monitor, but past experience tells me I'd probably buy something along the lines of those adorable skapris.

  7. I tweeted! (my tweet-name is @loxosceles)

  8. I have no interest in skirt-pants, but funny you would ask me what I want from Dick's. Tonight I went to tryouts for the local roller derby team (And I made it! Woohoo!) … and while I was there, some of the other hopefuls were talking about what great soccer socks Dick's has. They're kneesocks with cool patterns on them. Derby girls love us some kneesocks.

  9. wow those see through skirts are umm very interesting! I would love to get those skirt-pants. hahahah

    i like Dick's Sporting Goods!

  10. I tweeted for you to win!

  11. I would could definitely use $50 at Dick's to go towards a couple new workout tops. I finally figured out I push myself harder when I actually have a workout outfit on, rather than an old ratty t-shirt. Whatever works, right!

  12. * would or could …. it's been a long day ….

    hie thee to target,
whereupon ye can find most comely and affordable running skirts!

    http://www.target.com/C9-Champion-Cardio-Skort-Black/dp/B001EXI996/ref=sc_qi_detailbutton

    i lovelovelove my running skirt (from target);
i infinitely prefer it to any shorts,
since it avoids the dreaded thigh-rub wedge.

running skirts are also great for dance practice, too!

  17. I am not on Tweeter but since I just started my running, I would love some new running gear!

  18. I would love to put $50 towards a heart rate monitor!

  19. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman

I'm not big into workout skirts, but I love real dresses. As in I'm going to a wedding kind of dress. I never wear the ones I have enough, so I feel bad about buying new ones. Still, every time I go shopping I find a new cocktail dress I NEED. NOW!

  20. I would love some new running shirts!

  21. I was a kindergarten dress fanatic, too. When my mother made me wear pants, I'd come home and change into a dress after school. Now it's jeans all the way, but my inner girly LOVES those skirt-tight combos. Like, I want 5 pairs, and I fantasize about the right shoes . . . . maybe it's time to just buy one!

  22. I tweeted. I have 2 running skirts and one biking skirt and I love them!

I would probably use the $50 for some yoga pants. Not that I do yoga, but I think they're cute.

    Or running shoes. 🙂

  23. I tweeted!

  24. I would spend the $50 on some new dumbbells, the one's I currently have a too light.

  25. With the warm weather coming in and the trails finally drying out, I have my eyes on a pair of new trail running shoes!

  26. I tweeted! And I would put a down-payment on a heart rate monitor. I'd absolutely love one but they're soooo expensive

  27. I tweeted the link to your giveaway post. Here's hoping I win!!!

  28. Cheeky Pinky – Oh, girl I have a couple of Target running skirts! And I DO love them. I just want a pair with attached capris. It's a sickness I tell you:)

  29. I would love to buy another sports bra that actually works. I'm down to only one. It's a sad (and sometimes smelly) state to be in.

  30. I think that Japanese see through skirt would have a one day use window in a climate like Minnesota's, which is a good thing 🙂

  31. I've been toying with trading in my well worn running shorts for a workout skirt. I'd tweet you an entry but I am from the dark ages and still have not joined twitter (I don't even have a cell phone…feel free to mock me).

  32. I tweeted!

  33. I could really use a new cute workout jacket. With temps kind of 'in between' right now, I feel like I am never prepared. I could also use some maternity workout clothes…

  34. Second entry: I think my $50 would be a downpayment on the mega supportive Enell sports bra. I gotta' control the bounce and I really want to be able to run.

  35. I tweeted!

  36. Entry number 3. Linked shared on Facebook and Twitter. Now bring on the giftcard

  37. Second entry – The closest branch of my gym to my house is a women's only branch. I'm one of the few members who uses the free weights on the bottom shelf, plus I deadlift and squat with the "big girl" plates. I think wearing a workout skirt while lifting would make some members' heads explode. That could be fun.

  38. I need some cute workout tanks for summer! And it seems that I always need new running shoes.

  39. The running skirt is so cute! I would love a heart rate monitor, alas I am too cheap to spend the big bucks on a good one.

  40. i have been eye-ing the 60 buck gymgirl ultra at skirtsport.com for about a month! i am thinking that is what i will get for my birthday! Or i could get something at Dick's as well! 🙂

i would tweet but i have no twit.

  41. Definitely new workout clothes–so bored with my current wardrobe!

  42. Hmm, I'd probably go for some new capris or running shorts or maybe some new running shoes.

  43. That FitBit looks both cool and rather scary, in a Big-Brother-is-watching kind of way.
    OK, off to Tweet!

  44. Renée aka Mekhismom

I'd love a heart rate monitor. $50 bucks is a great down payment for one.

  45. I Tweeted!

  46. OK, I copied and pasted your typo . . . hee, hee.

  47. I want skirtapris too so I can cover anything that may or may not jiggle, PLUS I want to be just like Charlotte!

  48. I tweeted your link Charlotte . . . good luck!!

  49. You know Charlotte… Those skapris look a lot like tennis skirts with leggings. I bet you could find some tennis skirts cheap at a thrift store or somewhere, and leggings are easy to find cheap. They wouldn't be one piece… but they might be affordable!

  50. As a mom of three boys, I thought that I had to give up dresses and skirts for everyday until leggings came back. Leggings and footless tights help make me feel much more modest, and enable to get on the floor with the kids without giving an unintentional sex-ed lesson.
I would like a new pair of running shoes. My shoes are a couple of years old, and sport a big drop of black paint from some child's project gone astray.

Love Dick's. Used to love the climbing wall there until they built one closer to our house without a climbing wall. 🙁

  51. The fitbit looks too cool? Does it actually work?

  52. I tweeted for you!

I would use the $50 for clothes too, or possibly a new pair of shoes. I bought used sneakers on eBay about 7 years ago, and that's all I've had since then…it's sad.

  53. the cute nike skirt! I am having double knee survery soon and would love to get out and about in the niki skirt!

  54. I am obsessed with skirts for running and working out! I have a whole section in my fitness closet for my collection for SkirtSports! I LOVE their Tough Girl (with attached long flare pants!) for this winter and my fav is the Sweetest Thing skirt with capris attached. 🙂 I keep telling Runningskirts.com they need to get with it and add one with capris!

  55. I would spend the $50 on socks though, not skirts! I have enough skirts and NEED running socks like nobody's business!

  56. I tweeted.

  57. I tweeted!

  58. Yay, I tweeted! @emmaknits

  59. I want skirtapris too so I can be just like Charlotte!

Haha, seriously though, it would be so fun to have something extra cute to wear to the gym-maybe it would help motivate me?

  60. I LOVE running skirts, but I don't know about the ones with capri's underneath. I will withhold judgement for the time being.

  61. And if I had $50 to spend, I'd get a skort. We have a women's lacrosse team at the school where I work, and I think it's so great they wear skirts to play in. Athletic and feminine at the same time-now that's girl power;-)!

  62. And I tweeted! Thanks, Charlotte!

  63. I could totally go for a few new workout tops. I work out at the gym in my office building, and am often at the gym at the same time as coworkers. Just had a realization last week that maybe I shouldn't look like a slob in front of my coworkers even if I am at the gym… just a thought! Thanks for the giveaway Charlotte!

  64. Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too)

OK I tweeted. do I leave another entry? hmm. I don't enter many contests.

  65. Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too)

For $50 at DICKs, I'd buy a see-through skirt so that next time I go to Japan, I'll fit right in.

  66. Deb (Smoothie Girl Eats Too)

perhaps it's all the tequila, but I could have sworn I read that #1 and #3 have to do with Tweeting? I did tweet. Whoops I tweeted TO DICKS and ABOUT your contest all in one multipurpose tweet.

By the way, the first time I saw skorts was in Florida about 3-4 yrs ago and I was like WTF??!?! At a really hard core Gold's gym nonetheless. Then of course, it started to grow on me. I have yet to buy one though. Hmm, Dicks??

  67. Charlotte, I need so much that I don't know where to start BUT since I am still wearing leotards (I KNOW!), I would buy muchly needed workout clothes!!!

I don't do Twitter but it is making me rethink just to win this! I love that store!!!!!

  68. I tweeted

  69. I would get soccer gear for my 4 year old and a yoga mat for me!

  70. i linked 🙂

  71. i don't tweet but i fb'd it…can that count for something?

  72. and hahah to being quick. that's what happens when i keep clicking on my google reader praying for a new blog to pop up so i can procrastinate on my hw 🙂

  73. I Tweeted! and I would use the $50 to buy bigger workout clothes while I'm pregnant.

  74. If I won the $50 gift card, I'd buy my teenage niece some great soccer gear. (Or, most probably, I'd just give her the card and she could choose!)

  75. personally.. i don't think the running skirts are for me.. i've never tried them before though. i need some running shorts, so i think i'd spend it on that!

  76. I desperately need new summer work out gear. Mine are STANKY!

  77. Sorry… can't think up a clever comment… too busy being shocked by the URL. Tsk, woman!

  78. As a Spinner, I never use skirts/skorts. I don't like skorts…they offend my style and linguistic sensibilities. I do love summer because it's so much easier and more comfortable to wear a dress.

  79. i've never worn a skirt to workout before either but the tennis players look pretty cute!

  80. Love what the URL shortened too, hehe. I could really use a foam roller…and I AM AGAIN in need of shoes since mine are about 300 miles in. 5 months. For being a cheap hobby, running is expensive! 🙂

  81. …wait…they come WITH capris!?

you didn't tell me this was contagious, lady.

    🙂

  82. tweet about the contest: http://twitter.com/my_twitraccount/status/10217663283

  83. 1. Tweeted.

    2. I would definitely buy a new sports bra. Plyometrics should come with a warning for those of us with boobs — especially boobs a few sizes larger than normal clad in nursing bras.

    3. Linked.

  84. 1. I tweeted. Can't believe I did that.

    2. Think I would buy a new fishing reel …

  85. I WANNA buy shoes for my husband.

  86. As the weather gets every so slightly warmer, I realize I desperately need workout tanks/tees! I spent all my money stocking up on long sleeved shirts and pants for the winter but only have two or three tanks for the summer! The $50 gift card would definitely go towards that.

  87. I need new workout clothes so badly! No one wants to see sweaty crotch after a spinning class because my black pants are too faded. Just sayin' 🙂

  88. I tweeted! (first time ever – you may have created a monster! haha!)

  89. Aaaand, I would use the $50 to pay for (or partially pay for) a pair of good running shoes. I'm a new regular to the sport, and I've never owned a good pair (I hit up walmart for the $11 generics every season. Don't want to think about what those are doing to me).

  90. And I posted a link on my blog. whew, was that everything?

  91. and posted the link on my blog. 🙂

  92. I would put it towards new running shoes. 🙂

  93. Now that the snow has finally melted, those 50 bucks would go straight to some running shoes.

  94. i <3 the skirtsports. i barely run in anything other than skirts now. cycling skirts don't work for me and lifting in a skirt is all kinds of wrong (squats in a skirt? not so much), but for running? adore.

  95. While my girliness came along much later in life, I LOVE my running skirt and think I might NEED the capri version.
My poor mother had 4 boys and me, and all I wanted to wear were my brother's hand-me downs (including some sweet tube socks).

    Gym Buddy Megan

  96. I would buy some running tempo shorts.

  97. Charlotte,
Apparently those Japanese skirts aren't see through!! They are skirts that are printed with pictures that make them look like they are see through. Haha!

    http://www.snopes.com/photos/risque/skirts.asp

  98. I am in need of new sports bras and running shorts/shirts!
