My Life is a Cautionary Tale

Item the first: I am miserably sick. I did not one, but two workouts today. (Note: Not deathly sick. And I don’t think I’m contagious – it’s a sinus-y thing where my ears pop every time I swallow and my head spins thereby making me chronically off balance. I’m sure I was a treat to watch doing P90X yoga and Hip Hop Hustle.)

Item the second: I am in this month’s Fitness Magazine in an article about how I conquered (AHEM) my exercise dependency. (Note: the article wasn’t up on their site last I checked and they forbade me from scanning it in and posting it here. I’ll let you know when it goes live though.)

I will now leave you to contemplate my idiocy while I crawl back to bed.

PS. You know what I crave when I’m sick? A TALL COLD MUG OF MILK. Universe, 1. Charlotte, 0.

Way to go on working out despite feeling like crap. You're a stronger woman than I am. Feel better soon!

  2. feel better! and take care of yourself girl: if you are miserable then working out might not be the answer? (says the girl who would likely do the same thing as you…)

can't wait to check out that article. please do let us know when it goes up!

Will you autograph my copy of Fitness? 😉

    Feel better Charlotte!!!

  4. Boo to sickness! I just got over something that sounds like what you have. Antibiotics were the key for me. Rest up and feel better soon! Also, why do we crave milk when we're sick? It just increases the mucous flow, which is totally counterproductive.

I love how Americans say 'feel better' – like a command!! I am English so I will say 'Get well soon lovely Charlotte'!

    Lots of love

  6. I was sooo excited when I saw you quoted in the mag yesterday, Charlotte!
and I am proud to call you friend.
and I think of you as more than a mere internet acquaintance.
and I am waggling my finger here in the ATX right at your lovely little head.
and I am NOT congratulating you for working out but ordering you to, today or next time you feel crappy, take a day off and love your body back to health FIRST.

    then work out.

    I know.

    Im contrarian.

    and I cant spell.

    xo xo,

  7. ugh! sinuses are the worst, hope you are feeling better soon!
congrats on the article! i can't wait to check it out.

  8. I hope you are feeling better soon and please get some rest – you have readers (and children) that depend on you!

  9. How exciting that you are in Fitness Mag!! Now saying that, you best feel better soon! Rest up!

  10. I think the Universe is trying to balance things out… making you sick while making you a celebrity.

I will have a serious word with the Universe on this issue. And then you will get better 🙂

  11. I read the article and thought it might be you, but was a little confused by it. Anyway, hope you feel better.

  12. Sorry to read that your sick. Probiotics.

  13. There are times when we just have to throw up the white flag and give in to illness. I'm one to talk; I have been known to stay home sick from work, and by noon I'm creeping off to the gym, coughing all the way, to feed my exercise addiction. Sick, I know…
But you need to know when to say "when!"

  14. Psst…if you're sick, shouldn't you be resting?
Take care of yourself. You can't heal if you don't rest. Trust me. It's how I got sick in the first place!
Expecially as you make *me* feel bad because I'm not working out now while I'm sick. Come on…:)

  15. Take your time off until your completely healthy again. Don't risk any severe illness simply because you didn't take the first symptons seriously!

    Best regards,

  16. Feel better soon!!!!!!

  17. Feel better soon – don't forget to rest!

Congrats on the magazine quote 😀

  18. Get well soon ! Maybe taking a day or two off exercising might help 😉

  19. Awww, feel better! Can't wait to see the article! 🙂

I used to power through workouts when sick too, but then I read an article about how it's actually counterproductive. Like, it can actually eat muscle and increase fat and also can cause much more serious sickness. I wish I had a link but I don't. Suffice to say, it was enough to make me rest for a few days when I get sick.

  20. Take care and feel better soon! Congrats on the article.

  21. I love your blog. I opened my fitness magazine to your article and started to freak out. Anyway, I was wondering, do you still workout six hours a day?

  22. Caroline – no, thankfully I don't! These days it's usually 2 hours/day max:) Glad you found my blog!

  23. aw, i saw that in my fitness (which i thought i unsubscribed to, but oh well) and was going to comment but i forgot. oops.

good story though and i squee'd when i saw your name. i poked at brandon and went, "look! it's charlotte!"

    him: "blog charlotte?"
    me: "yep!"
him: "that's so cool!" and then i read him the article. yep.

and agreed with others: off days, while they may suck, are sometimes a necessary evil. TAKE ONE.
