Almost a Ranger, Not Yet an Action Hero

I’m wiped.

And if any of you did your homework this weekend (anyone? Anyone? Bueller??) then you are too. It probably wasn’t the wisest idea to finish the Ranger Special Ops assessment AND start the Action Hero Workout all on the same day. But you should all know by now that knowing when to quit isn’t exactly my strong suit. So, results:

No Special Ops For Us
But we’re still special:) Awwww! Gym Buddy Allison and I are both pretty proud of the numbers we put up. We h-a-t-e-d doing the test but when it was all done, Allison looked at me and declared, “That was a rush!” Indeed.

Ranger Special Ops Requirements:
Situps: 80 in two minutes
Pushups: 80 in two minutes
Pullups: 12 consecutive
Run: 2 miles in 13 minutes

Charlotte:
Situps: 98 (girls rule!)
Pushups: 72 (I’m still sore and we did this part on Friday)
Pullups: 15 – but not all in a row. I got 6 without putting my feet down.
Run: 14:08 (First mile was 6:01!!!! I almost puked.)

Allison:
Situps: 69 (thisclose!)
Pushups: 65 (yes, we both did “man” pushups)
Pullups: 14 not in a row. 6 in a row.
Run: 14:40 (she said, “I didn’t even know it was possible for me to run this fast!”)

Action Hero Workout Tips
It was fun!
– It’s kind of a long workout so plan at least an hour.
– Don’t do it every day. It hits upper and lower body so 2 X week, 3 max
– We upped the recommended weights as her suggestions seemed light to us. So pick a weight that you can do 12-15 reps for 3 sets of. Yay, no more Barbie weights!!
– Do whatever cardio seems appropriate to you
– Gym Buddy Candice pointed out to me that “two really small towels” (used instead of the val-slides) are actually called “washcloths” in English. Thanks, girl:)
– Gena added that paper plates on carpet also work in lieu of the “val-slides” Great idea!
– Yes you are supposed to do all 3 circuits 3 times each in the same workout. I know it’s hard. It’s supposed to be hard. Do you think Wonder Woman got those quads with Sit and Be Fit?

How did you guys do? Post your Ranger Ops results and/or thoughts on the Action Hero workout. I’m really interested to see what you guys think of it!! Now – time for a nap.

  1. Move over, Iron Man;” the Iron Women are here, kickin’ ass and takin’ names!!!!

Meanwhile, I did P90X chest and biceps this morning. I used 10 and 8 pound weights, and I thought I was gonna DIE!!!!!!!!
Maybe I could be your wimpy sidekick?

    (GREAT photos!!!!!)

  2. time to run and do my own version of the superhero workout (leap a baby gate in a single bound and try and get aforementioned babyToddler to the potty on time) BUT had to say:

    I NEED AN ALLISON.

    mightcould we clone her?

    you move here?

    all these questions,

    M.

  3. Man you girls are tough! WD on the special ops results! Frickin’ eh.

  4. Crabby McSlacker

OK, you guys seriously ARE action heroes. I’m in awe.

Can you leap tall buildings in a single bound? Although they have elevators now, so that’s probably not necessary.

  5. Wow! That’s really amazing. I have yet to attempt your Special Ops challenge… but someday!

For the action hero workout, I didn’t manage to complete it yesterday. BUT I will finish it today. I’ve decided to do the first and second workout once each every week, and it might have to be spread across a couple days which of course isn’t how you’re SUPPOSED to do it but I’m not quite hardcore enough (yet!) to do the whole thing in the same day as my grueling bootcamp. However I’m quite enjoying the challenge!

  6. Well, we all gotta start somewhere so I’ll post my Special Ops wannabe stats.

    Pushups- 45 “man” pushups
    Situps- 82
Pull ups- 1 and maybe 1/2… hey! I’m working on it!
2 miles in 24 minutes on treadmill.

I hate running and having this recorded will push me to decrease my time!!

I’m considering the Action Hero for a month.

Oh, I definitely need a crazy gym buddy. Only problem is that I’m the craziest person I know!

    Thanks for the inspiration, Charlotte!

  7. YAY Godiva Girl! You inspire me! Please don’t feel bad about your 2 mile time, I don’t think I can even run two miles at once, but that’s in my training plan right now. And awesome job with the push-ups! Great Job!

  8. Video! Video! Show us yourselves in action!!! We can post it on YouTube and you’ll go worldwide!

  9. I gave it a shot last night. Well one time through each ciruit at least. Wanted to test out the soreness factor before I go all the way. Feel like I did nothing today so will do all 3 sets next time. Do have some concerns about the leg exercises. Can feel some discomfort in my knees when doing them.

  10. i need to get in on this.

and i’m with mizfit, I need a partner in crime (and fitness). who is coming my way?

  11. Nice job, guys!!

    Dr. J

  12. Just finished the action hero workout! The first two circuits I was fine, no problem! By the last circuit my legs were a little shaky, and by the last time through, I was tired. It seems to be a really great full body workout, but I do wish it had included another triceps move. I might have to add one in for the next session. I would not, however, suggest going for a 2.5 mile run after doing this workout. Especially if you live in an area known as the foothills.

I am surprised I found it this easy, since I’ve been slacking on strength training lately. We’ll have to see how sore I am tomorrow.

  13. whats the skinny

you sooo rock! i’m gonna have to try this special opps workout, myself. thanks for the routine.

  14. Looks like I will never be a Ranger or Action Hero. I can’t run anymore post-torn meniscus. Sad face.

    🙁

Can I be Barbara Gordon, maybe? Or the new Q?

“Now Double Os, do please try to return some of this equipment in working order.”
