I’m a Freak

Everyone has their weird little obsessions – research is mine. I’ll read anything with statistics in it. If it starts with “A recent study shows…”, I’m in hog heaven. If it links to the actual paper with the actual study (and not just some teaser of an abstract) I might actually cry a little with joy. I dream in numbers.

My other obsession is health and fitness. I am not alone here. There are many health nuts out there (some more nutty than healthy but whatever, I don’t judge) and I count myself blessed to be friends with a large number of them.

So where do the two obsessions collide? Right here. I read the research and parse it for you. I experiment on myself and then let you laugh at me. Or envy me – you choose. One thing you need to know about me though: I won’t give you advice. Sorry. I have no degree in nutrition, health, or anything else relevant (two degrees in other subjects) nor am I a personal trainer so I am in no way qualified to give you advice. Some would argue I’m not even qualified to give ME advice. But I don’t listen to the uncreative.

So please join me. Tell me what you’ve tried. What has worked, what hasn’t. Give me suggestions. Tell me about your research. Cheer me on. Laugh at me. Whatever it takes to make you think. To make me think.

  1. It makes me feel so good that you admit to loving reading research, particularly any that contains beautiful statistics! I thought I must be the only nerd out there.

    Love your blog!

  2. Wow! Finally made it all the way back to the first post! It only took 3 weeks of working nights to finally get here. Bought your book and loved it! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your blog!
